Can you do a UG degree online in India in 2026?
Yes — and it is now completely legitimate. The University Grants Commission (UGC) granted full equivalence to online degrees in 2020, confirmed again in 2023. An online BBA, BCA or BCom from a UGC-DEB approved university is legally equivalent to the same degree obtained on campus for employment, higher education and government jobs. As of the 2025–26 academic session, 101 universities have UGC-DEB approval for online programs.
Who should consider an online UG degree?
Students who cannot relocate for a traditional college. Working or gap-year students who want to earn while they learn. Students from smaller cities wanting degrees from reputed universities (Manipal, Amrita, Amity) without campus attendance. Students targeting Canada or other countries — WES-recognised online degrees from Manipal MUJ and Amrita are valid for immigration credential evaluation.
Eligibility for online UG programs
For most online BBA, BCA and BCom programs: 10+2 (Class 12) pass from any recognised board. Minimum 50% aggregate for most universities (45% for reserved categories in some). For BCA: Mathematics or Computer Science at 10+2 level is recommended (required at some universities).
